APE221 — Albino Penis Envy Without the Wait
APE221 is Albino Penis Envy without the wait. Classic APE is legendary for its potency — but also notorious for being painfully slow, prone to contamination, and unforgiving to anyone without serious cultivation experience.
APE221 is a refined isolation that retains the full 6/6 potency of APE while colonising significantly faster and fruiting more reliably. If you want the hardest-hitting cubensis available without having to monitor your grow for two months, this is it.

Origin & Genetics
Albino Penis Envy traces its lineage back to Terence McKenna’s original Penis Envy genetics from the 1970s — itself regarded as one of the most potent cubensis strains ever found. The albino mutation was later stabilised by Sporeworks, producing the snow-white, dense fruit bodies that made APE a cult classic.
The problem? Classic APE is notoriously slow. Grain colonisation alone can take 3–4 weeks, fruiting can extend beyond 6 weeks, and every additional day represents another day in which the substrate is exposed to contamination risks.
APE221 was selected specifically to address this bottleneck — an isolation that retains the full genetic profile and potency of APE while significantly reducing the colonisation timeline.
The mycelium is more vigorous, pins appear sooner, and the overall time from setup to harvest is closer to what you would expect from a standard cubensis rather than the weeks-long process associated with classic APE.
Penis Envy, Albino Penis Envy, or APE221?
All three share the same legendary Penis Envy lineage, but they can differ considerably in their characteristics:
| Characteristic | Penis Envy | Albino Penis Envy (classic) | APE221 ✦ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Original mutation | Leucistic mutation of PE | Refined APE isolation |
| Appearance | Tan/brown, thick phallic stems, bulbous caps | Snow-white, dense, caps rarely open | Snow-white, dense, same APE morphology |
| Potency | ★★★★★☆ (5/6) | ★★★★★★ (6/6) | ★★★★★★ (6/6) |
| Colonisation speed | Slow (3–4 weeks grain) | Very slow (4+ weeks grain) | Faster — more vigorous mycelium |
| Time to first pins | 4–6 weeks | 5–7 weeks | 2–4 weeks |
| Contamination risk | High — slow growth means greater exposure | Very high | Reduced — faster colonisation can shorten the exposure window |
The key difference comes down to speed versus risk. Classic APE can take a long time to colonise, meaning the substrate remains exposed for longer and potentially giving bacteria or mould more opportunity to develop — contributing to APE’s reputation as a strain for experienced growers.
APE221 was selected for more vigorous colonisation, potentially reducing the amount of time the substrate remains vulnerable. It retains the snow-white, dense fruit-body characteristics associated with APE, alongside its reported high potency, while offering a faster-growing alternative to classic APE.
Why Choose APE221?
- Strength: ★★★★★★ (6/6) — reported full APE potency with no compromise. This is considered a high-potency cubensis variety.
- Faster than classic APE — APE221 is selected for more vigorous colonisation and earlier pin development than traditional Albino Penis Envy.
- Reduced exposure window — faster colonisation can mean less time for the substrate to remain exposed to potential contamination.
- For experienced growers — APE varieties are generally considered more demanding than many conventional cubensis varieties and are best approached with appropriate knowledge and care.
What’s in the Box
- 1 × Cloud920 Grow Bag — 2000cc pre-colonised substrate containing APE221 mycelium. Integrated micron filters are designed to allow passive air exchange while helping to reduce contamination exposure.
- 1 × Large bag clip — for securely closing the bag between ventilation sessions.
- 1 × Rubber band — designed to be placed around the substrate block to help limit unwanted side growth.
How the Cloud920 Grow Bag Works
The Cloud920 Grow Bag is designed as a contained growing format intended to simplify the cultivation process. Its integrated filtration system allows air exchange while helping to limit exposure to contaminants.
For legal cultivation where permitted, always follow the supplier’s current instructions and applicable local regulations. Cultivation, possession and use of psilocybin-containing mushrooms are regulated differently across European countries and may be prohibited in your jurisdiction.
