This package contains 20 g of shredded Siberian Motherwort (Leonurus sibiricus).
History of Siberian Motherwort
Leonurus sibiricus is a herbaceous plant native to parts of China, Mongolia, Japan, Korea and Siberia. Over time, it has also become established in various regions of Central, South and North America.
The plant has a long history in traditional herbal practices and has commonly been associated with calming and relaxing properties. In Mexico, it acquired the nickname “little marijuana” because it was historically used as a botanical substitute for cannabis.
Other names associated with the plant include Siberian Motherwort, Honeyweed and Mi Amor, meaning “my love” in Spanish.
Historical references to Leonurus species can be found in traditional Chinese literature, including the ancient Book of Songs. Traditional herbal practices have used the plant in connection with women’s menstrual health, circulation and male reproductive wellbeing.
Honeyweed has also featured in traditional devotional and ceremonial practices. Mexican folk traditions associated the herb with rituals intended to encourage reconciliation or the return of a romantic partner.
Traditional Use
Dried Siberian Motherwort has traditionally been prepared as a herbal tea.
For an infusion:
- Use approximately 1–3 teaspoons of the dried herb per cup.
- Add hot water.
- Allow the herb to steep for around 15 minutes.
- Strain before drinking.
Historically, the dried herb has also been used as a smokable botanical, including in pipes and hand-rolled preparations. Smoking any dried plant material produces combustion by-products that can be harmful to health, so this is not considered a risk-free method of use.
Scientific evidence concerning the psychoactive or therapeutic effects of Leonurus sibiricus in humans remains limited. Traditional uses should therefore not be considered established medical treatments.
