Ginkgo Biloba – 80 g

Contents

This product contains 80 g of dried Ginkgo Biloba (Ginkgo biloba) leaves, available in either shredded or powdered form.

About Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo Biloba is one of the world’s oldest surviving tree species and the sole living member of the Ginkgoaceae family. Fossil evidence suggests that ancient forms of ginkgo existed more than 200 million years ago, making this remarkable tree a true botanical survivor.

The characteristic fan-shaped leaves make Ginkgo instantly recognisable. Although the species has become closely associated with East Asia, Ginkgo has been cultivated in China for thousands of years and was later introduced to other parts of the world.

Ginkgo trees can reach heights of around 35 metres and are exceptionally resilient. Male and female reproductive structures occur on separate trees, while the species is known for its ability to tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions.

Ginkgo leaves contain naturally occurring plant compounds, including flavonoids and terpenoids, which are responsible for much of the interest surrounding this traditional botanical.

Traditional Uses

Ginkgo leaves have a long history in traditional herbal practices. They are commonly prepared as an infusion and have traditionally been associated with circulation and cognitive wellbeing.

The dried leaves can be used to prepare herbal tea. Place the desired amount in hot water and allow it to steep before straining.

As herbal preparations vary in concentration, there is no universally appropriate daily quantity for every individual. Follow the product instructions and seek professional advice if you are unsure about suitability.

How to Prepare Ginkgo Tea

To make a simple infusion:

  1. Place the dried, shredded Ginkgo leaves in a cup or tea infuser.
  2. Add hot water.
  3. Allow the leaves to steep for several minutes.
  4. Strain before drinking.

The powdered form can also be incorporated into suitable herbal preparations.

History

Ginkgo has an extraordinary botanical history. Its ancestors existed long before modern flowering plants became widespread, and the species has survived dramatic changes in climate and environment.

In China, Ginkgo has been cultivated and valued for centuries. It subsequently spread throughout East Asia, where mature trees can often be found around temples, gardens and other historically significant sites.

European awareness of the species developed much later, following its introduction from East Asia. Today, Ginkgo trees are grown in many parts of Europe and are particularly valued for their distinctive appearance and remarkable longevity.

Important Safety Information

Ginkgo can influence blood clotting and circulation and may interact with certain medicines.

If you take anticoagulants, antiplatelet medicines, blood-thinning medication or other medicines that affect clotting, consult a doctor or pharmacist before using Ginkgo.

People taking insulin or other medicines for diabetes should also seek professional advice before consuming Ginkgo preparations, as interactions may occur.

Do not use Ginkgo as a substitute for prescribed medical treatment. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or regularly take medication, consult a qualified healthcare professional before use.
